Academic Learning Center – Members of our club volunteer as tutors at this K-5 afterschool leaming center that conducts its program at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Madison.
Bell Ringing – Twice a year Club members volunteer to assist the Salvation Army in ringing bells at various shopping malls or stores to raise funds for support of the Salvation Army’s activities.
Bloodmobile – Monthly, Club members work as volunteers at registration or canteen services for a blood donation events being run by the Red Cross.
FFA Forensics Contest – Annually, members of the Club volunteer as judges for the FFA Forensics Contest at a local high school, involving students from the FFA chapters in the surrounding area.
Hwy 19 Cleanup – The Club has adopted a section of Hwy 19 west of River Road. Twice a year Club members perform a cleanup of that adopted section of road.
Independent Living Ice Cream Social – Members help to serve ice cream and assist residents with meals.
Oakwood Bingo -Once a month Club members staff the Bingo Night at the Oakwood Center, running the bingo game and assisting residents who 11eed help to participate.
Washcloth Bag Project – We gather excess toiletries when visiting hotels or donations from such sources as dentists. These are assembled into bags made from wash cloths by Club members, and are distributed to the homeless.
Wil-Mar Community Center Meals – On the 4th Saturday of each month Club members serve a noon meal to approximately eighty people at the Wil-Mar Community Center.
YWCA – Our volunteers help with the YWCA’s Winter Party, Mother’ s Day Luncheon and a Picnic in the Park.
Awards and Scholarships
4C (Community Coordinated Child Care) – Young Star is the state’s quality rating and improvement system. Enrolled family and group child care centers are given a star rating, from one to five stars. Our Club provides the YoungStar Quality Improvement Award to the Dane County child care center that shows quality improvements in two or more of the required areas.
Agriculture and Conservation/Environment Awards – Each year, the Club presents either an Agriculture Award or a Conservation/Environment Award to an organization that has distinguished itself in its area.
Community Service Awards – Each year our Club presents three Community Service Awards in the amount of $2,500 to organizations that meet high standards of community service.
Community Leadership Grants – Each year our Club presents two Community Leadership grants in the amount of $2,500 to outstanding students.
Gustav Bohstedt Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student studying animal nutrition in either the Department of Animal Sciences or Department of Dairy Science at the OW-Madison.
Sasman Endowment in the Wisconsin FFA Foundation – Louis M. Sasman was the State Supervisor of Vocational Education from 1924 to 1960 and a member of our Club for more than 40 years. Members of our Club established a $1,000 scholarship in his honor to be given to an outstanding student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education with the goal to teach agriculture in a Wisconsin high school.
Sasman FFA Recognition Awards -Annually, the Club recognizes an outstanding student from each of the FFA Chapters at Dane County High Schools with a Louis M. Sasman Award. Mr. Sasman was the State Supervisor for Vocational Education for 36 years and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Madison.
Youth Services Scholarships – The Club provides four $2,000 annual scholarships to outstanding students.
